From the Director’s Desk: A Letter to our Staff Summit 2016 Volunteers
As the committee heads reported in around table, one consistent highlight emerged: the passion and skill of our volunteers. Regardless of the department, every team leader said they weren’t just greatly encouraged by the event or the speakers, but by the teams working behind the scenes. We were inspired by all of you. You ministered to the campus missionaries just as much as the international speakers and full-time worship leaders.
Campus missionaries are amusingly consistent. We are all thrilled by the same things: seeing a young person walk with Jesus, meeting an older person who cares about the next generation, reconnecting with someone you discipled who’s serving God in their career, and witnessing a young volunteer who serves with excellence and commitment.
Volunteers are energizing because you’ve learned how to receive and how to give back. You’re not just consumers but creators also. You don’t let circumstances just happen, but you do what you can to make a difference around you. What’s so inspiring is how most of you have had to overcome many personal challenges in order to serve.
So thank you for all your service. Thank you for giving so generously of your time, energy, even money. There’s one verse that we want to remind you of as we remember your work.
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you help his
people and continue to help them.
[Tweet “Helping God’s people is showing love to God.”]
First lesson here, is God is not unjust. He remembers the work you do, even when other people don’t notice it. Secondly, helping God’s people is showing love to God. You all showed great love to the campus missionaries and their families. But ultimately you were showing it to God.
Thank you again for your service!
